Are you using hair bonding glue instead of an eyelash adhesive to apply your lashes?

Earlier this week I followed a Twitter conversation between celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine and a few of his followers who swore by using hair bonding glue (yes, I'm talking about hair weaving glue!) over eyelash adhesive to apply lashes. And honestly, it wasn't the first I'd heard of this. I took a makeup class last summer and a few students also swore by hair bonding glue. Now, since when was hair bonding glue approved to use on the eyes??? Oh, and just in care you're wondering, Sam did stand firm on using a proper eyelash adhesive - his favorite being DUO.

So my question for you today is: Are you using hair bonding glue instead of an eyelash adhesive to apply your lashes?

I see that a lot here. There's a cashier at my local CVS who has this dull gray, slightly crusty lash line. I didn't know what it was until my friend told me she probably used weave bonding glue for her lashes. I could not even understand that. My eyes are very sensitive and I'm not about to blind myself of lose ALL my eyelashes in the name of looking cute.

I wouldn't even think of using hair bonding glue on my eyes. That doesn't seem very safe. Wouldn't you end up pulling out your eyelashes. I will stick to my duo clear. It works great for me.

I recently had my eyelashes done at nail salon and I have reason to believe that they used hair bonding glue =( when I was ready to remove my eyelashes nothing worked. I called the nail salon and they advised me to go in and have them removed. When the lady removed my lashes it was extreamly painful and it burned my eyes soo bad I was crying. My sister was here visiting from out of town and decided to get hers done and now she's bak in arizona and can't seem to remove this glue =/ we don't know how she's going to remove them.

To Mia: UGH! I hate to hear that happened to you. But now that you know, no worries! As for your sister, maybe an oil such as jojoba may loosen the glue for her. Just tell her to be patient and not to rip them out!

I don't advice anyone to use hair bonding glue. I am a major fan of Kim Kardashian's make up. I love how she looks with her flase eyelashes so it inspired me to put some false eyelashes on. I am extremely disappointed and literally going out of my mind. I went to this asian salon so they could apply the eye lashes for me. Mind you this is my first time ever wearing false eye lashes. She finishes applying the lashes to my eyes and I was instantly drawn and fell in love with how they looked on me. Later that night my eyes were burning. I couldn't even sleep. My eyes have been literally irritating since then. I am so angry right now because I just found out I had hair bonding glue in my eye lash. I would've never allowed her to put that in my eyes if I would've know from the beginning. The nail salon stylist did not tell me that she used hair bonding glue for my false eyelashes which frankly I believe is quit deceiving. I'm freaking out now because I don't want to rip off the lashes because I don't want to rip of my real lashes because they are all blended and I can't tell strand of hair is which. I am suffering and dying to take these single lashes off. I think that hair bonding glue is easier and would probably last longer. but definitely can make you lose your real lashes and it's not worth losing your real eye lashes over some fake eye lashes. UGH I'm soooo mad

I don't see why everyone is freaking out. I understand that people get upset when products are being used on them without their knowledge at salons but as a paying costumer you should be paying close attention to what is being done to you. Hair bonding glue is not necessarily bad, its specially formulated to glue hair to hair. Look on the packing for lash glue it'll say avoid getting this product in your eyes...so no matter what glue it is you should always avoid getting it in your eye. As for taking it off, q-tips, baby oil, and a lot or patience is all that's needed

I have been using Proclaim black hair glue as my eyelash glue for the last two years. I have never had irritated eyes, never had to rip them off, no dry skin, I still have perfect eyelashes and it hasn't made my skin any more sensitive than it ever has been. I wear false eyelashes everyday because my real eyelashes are short, but full, so I just wear thinner looking, but long lashes. I don't see why people make a big deal about it.

I see a couple of people posting its not a big deal.. its a big deal.. hair glue isnt as flexable as eyelash glue.. not everyones skin is the same.. as for the person saying "but as a paying costumer you should be paying close attention to what is being done to you." NO! the Stylist is to be explaining step by step what they use on you.. as a matter of fact its malpractice and can damage the salon that is why you are told to inform the client. I see why girls want to use bonding glue.. it lasts longer than a day.. however look how bad it is for your eye.. the skin, lashes and the actual eye ball.. fumes can also cause blindness.. when you rub your eyes if you are a eye rubber the glue isnt flexable and will rip the eyelashes out.. also if you cant remove them at home when you need too, ie. the lash is loose and falls into eye causing damage to the cornea. its not good.. im a cosmotologist in training i just seen girls yesterday applying them to girls, no doubt they looked cute.. but one girls eyes were burning in 4 hours of application.. and yes the lash glue didnt last as long.. but better safe than sorry.. much rather use a strip and reapply daily than to deal with the side effects.. also, i paid to have fake lashes put on they lasted 2 weeks until they started to bend and fall into my eye causing pain.. i believe lash glue was involved warm water almost worked but even with that half my lashes were removed from the glue, not from ripping them out i was being paitient but from me rubbing my eyes over the 2 week period or sleeping. Just putting that out there.. also, nothing is more nasty than seeing eyeshadow and crusties on someones lashe.. ekk!

I had the pleasure of using eye lash adhesive glue and hair bonding glue..adhesive glue does not last as long as hair bonding glue..if I use adhesive glue it only last 1 wk and hair bonding glue can last up to 3 wks..ppl told me not to use hair bonding glue but when I read the ingredients for both glues they have the same ingredients..both packages also indicate keep away from your eyes, which is confusing, because it's eyelash adhesive glue.. and besides your scalp is very close to the eyes..so depending on the person they would decide to use one over the other..personally I love using hair bonding glue over the eyelash adhesive because when I use the adhesive glue I am replacing a single lash everyday..when I apply my single lashes (one by one) with hair bonding glue it dries faster, stays in place, and last longer.. taking them off (using either glue) just use a q-tip and baby oil..they will come right off..in this case there is no right or wrong answer to applying your lashes...

I'm a model and I wear false eyelashes every single day, and I use extension glue. No it is not a big deal, no it doesn't rip your skin. The keyword is RUBBER and you glue them to your actual eyelashes, not your skin. So there should be no irritation there. The irritation you may be experiencing is when clumping mascara on. It's a weight factor, it doesn't take much common sense to gather that if something is weighing down your eyelashes you will experience some abnormalities (irritation) in a lighter sense. Liquid eyeliner also causes irritation and burning.

I use bonding glue....like it says above NO GLUE is meant to go in your eye so lord help those that think DUO is any safer smh. To avoid getting any glue in your eyes you use a thin line, let it get tacky then apply the lash. If you dont know what youre doing, have someone else apply it that does.

As for the person that had them done at a salon and they were hard to get off and the remover burned, it was probably the clear liquid adhesive. I had individuals put on and had the same thing happen. With both Duo and bonding glue I can normally pull them right off (way easier with Duo, it barely has hold) but whatever crap they used was a level lower than super glue.

As for a stylist telling you step by step everything they are doing....thats nice in theory but usually they assume you did some sort of research before choosing to have something done (most people so this I hope) and if you had questions you would ask.....not just have them assume you know nothing and walk you through it step by step. Plus if you expect them to explain and they dont, wouldnt you think its a good idea to start asking questions if you didnt research and dont know?

Agree! I use hair bonding glue and the clear glue that comes with the packets of individual lashes (Ardell) is 10x more harsh than Proclaim hair bond glue. Believe it or not people hair bond glue is easier to remove than the eyelash (permanent ) that comes with the lashes! My fiancé gave me a kiss 20 mins after putting them on one night and he said," what smells like fingernail polish?"..... And it was the glue that came with my eyelashes! It's extremely harsh. I've been using hair bond glue and they come off much easier and the smell and fumes aren't near as bad either!!

You will use more adhesive than hair bonding glue if and only if you know what you are doing. I started doing my own lashes this year and i will never pay no one to do them again!!! Put a warm damp wash cloth on eyes for about 5 minutes, then use Baby Oil with Q-tips. Let Baby Oil sit on lashes until they 'slide' off with a gentle swipe of the clean warm damp cloth. NeVeR pull, tug or use hard motions with your lashes or around your eyes, that is one of the most sensitive areas on your face.

I use hair bonding glue on my lashes, they do not have any adverse effects. In my opinion, ardell glue is much harsher on the eyes and is not easily removed. Hair bonding glue does not hurt your lashes or eyes (it's on your eyelids not in your eye), it stays on longer than DUO (through physical activity/sweat), but does take a lot of practice to do correctly. I only use hair bonding glue now. If you're concerned, don't do it, but I will continue using hair bonding glue.

Silk eyelash extensions: These are the mid-weight type of lash extensions, and are finer and more flexible than the synthetic type. Because they are softer and more porous, they tend to hold on slightly longer than the synthetic ones. They can be made to look very natural or very glamorous, but sometimes not quite as dense/thick as the synthetic lashes. They are lighter weight, which are often a better option for your lashes if your own lashes are weak or fine. They can definitely last longer than synthetic lashes. Like synthetic lashes, silk come in a variety of curls and lengths and are a better option for a more natural look, as the curl is not generally as uniform or as ‘plasticky’ as synthetic Eyelash Extensions

I don't think everyone on here is talking about the same type of hair glue. I use hair glue all the time, its been 3 years now and nothing weird has happened... until I used DUO lash glue. That's when I experienced dry skin that almost lead to a rash. Hair glue used by African Americans is quite sensitive and flexible. Comes off way easier than eyelash glue as well! Somewhat reminds me of a soft rubbery bond. Everyone is different and glue is glue! Just don't literally apply to your eyeballs and you should be okay :)

I think before I started using "eyelash" glue, I used I think it was Salonga Pro black glue. I NEVER had problems. I also bought the same brand remover at the same time. Guess what I use to remove the lashes...yep, you guessed it...the hair bond remover...a small amount either on the tip of my finger or on a cotton swap...careful not to get in my eyes & they come off beautifully & easily.
I still use the remover with the star glue I have been using...my eyes have started twitching something awful. The remover doesn't work as well. :(

I only stopped using the hair glue bc my hair glue had completely hardened & the place I bought it from doesn't sell any hair glue now. It hardened bc of leaving it open & not wearing lash strips that often. Now I wear them daily. But my eyelids are seriously twitching & I wanna go back to hair glue & found this thread by accident.

So...hey dummy's use hair glue remover to remove hair glue. Directions on everything, including eyelash adhesive, says don't get it in your eyes. For the record, I have accidentally gotten both eyelash adhesive & hair bond in my eye...I quickly got it out & no problems...it being black helps to see to get it all out, maybe the latex helps. For the record, I am white & the black glue helps make it look like eyeliner. Also the latex makes it flexible & feels lightweight.
Also my newest FAVE lashes are by KISSES the blooming line in Peony. I get told my lashes are on point by all the young strangers I come across & my friends that pay 100's of dollars to get eyelash extensions but can't manage to put in lash strips.

Since I started wearing my eyelash strips daily (around the clock for days at a time, if they still look good). Now...I don't need to wear makeup anymore, just a little baby powder to tame the oily. Oh & I'm 37...I look younger now wearing just the lash strips & baby powder then I did in my 20's with actual makeup. ;)

So it's all about being CAREFUL & not doing anything stupid. So if you can't be careful you shouldn't be wearing false lashes at all!

Obviously at your school spelling isn't a prerequisite...the word is Cosmetologist.

Obviously if you have skin sensitivities you should only go to licensed places if you're getting eyelash EXTENSIONS.

Hair glue with latex is flexible & has day-time to adjust or start over. Also don't glue your false lashes to your real eyelashes directly as it will give you a gummy fake look. Just apply it to your lash strip and apply to your eyelid as close to your eyelashes as possible.

I personally do this after I curl & apply mascara to my natural lashes to keep the natural lash color & false lashes color the same.

I am a licensed Cosmetologist. I am not a lash artist. I have gotten lash extensions for my wedding. But I am too cheap to drop $80-$100+ a month to keep up with the look of sexy long lashes that I can apply myself for pennies or less a day using a good quality lash strip.

Also...YES...use the hair bond remover that is made for the hair glue...they are made by the same company for a reason.

I'll start by saying everybody is different and everybody reacts differently to different products.

That being said, I do use hair glue as eyelash adhesive. I used to use regular eyelash glue but hated the way it looked when it dried. I have a friend who used hair glue and swore by it so I decided to try it and have been using it for years. I have never had any kind of issue with it. I only use a tiny bit, with or without eyeliner, and I constantly get compliments about my eyelashes. Most people assume their real or just eyelash extensions. Maybe I don't use strong glue but I never need anything to remove the lashes, I just peel them off. They never harm my real lashes either, they are still just as full. Not to mention, your lashes do renew themselves. Honestly the hair glue, to me, feels pretty much the same as eyelash glue. Like I said, everybody reacts differently but I've been using it for like five years and have never had an issue.

Hair Glue is for hair. Just as with anything there is no problem til there is a problem. Hair glue smells like cat piss why would you want that on your eyes anyway. As a professional in the business for over 20 years and an instructor I can assure you it is not good for your eyes. Kitchentitchens were doing relaxers and permanent hair color and some people didn't loose their hair at first so they thought that was right because not always does it immediately hurt anything. Who ever the unknown person who says they have the same ingredients let me assure again they DO NOT!!! One different ingredient makes it not the same. Please consult professionals because saving a couple dollars isn't worth the future problems. Cosmetologists don't go to school for 2 years to have less knowledge than someone who figures it out at home. You would give yourself a surgery at home because you watch someone on Greys anatomy do it would you? Everyone thinks they are experts and never consider the more serious things that can occur because it looks right or looks good or doesn't cause them immediate problems. It can be a big deal again a problem isn't a problem til it's a problem. Stop listening to people who don't know better!!! There are many who have been blinded, damaged their eyes because of fumes (not dropped i the eye) google it.

I have used both glues and I like the bonding glue best.
It is not hard to take off, last longer, doesn't burn and still looks good. The thing I do like about the adhesive glue over the bonding glue is, after a week of having the lashes on( which the adhesive glue don't really last that long anyway) it don't get sticky due to your eye getting watery. Other than that, I always get compliments on my lashes looking so natural using bonding glue. But I do individuals over strips anyway. Strips alone are heavy to me.
Oh and the time spent using the adhesive, I do not have the time for.
I am a single mother of 4 and with all I have to do with my girls, work and grand baby 5 to 10 minutes works best for me and my bonding glue gives me that saved time I need.
Everybody is different
Use what is best for you.

I answer the question first and for most, I am team Bonding Glue.
My opinion, to each it's own

But to say Cosmetologists don't go to school for 2 years to have less knowledge than someone who figures it out at home.
SHUT UP...LOL...
I applaud you getting a degree in what you like but that does not mean you are better at making choices in what to use or what not to use.
There are Cosmetologist out there who does hair and lashes way better than one in a shop any day hands down.
Trust that one.
And without a license and prices are more affordable as well.
I don't have a license and do hair, lashes, makeup and more. Learned them from YouTube for the sake of saving money for other things than hair or nail school.
It is awesome that you have a degree.
Standing ovation to you
But don't try to belittle others opinions because of that degree.
Their experience and thoughts are just as important as yours degree or not.
That's like a counselor trying to tell someone how to raise a child because of a degree but don't have kids.
Stop....

Ppl do not always do the right thing and she doesnt sound stupid. She sounds intelligent to me. If you go somewhere to get work done and you have no idea what that might include or what may happen because you did zero research... Then my darling.. We both know who was being stupid. Sorry but the truth hurts. We all mess up. Dont blame it on someone else. Maybe the lady thought it would last longer so she was trying to do you a solid. Its not her fault you didnt educate yourself before glueing stuff to your face.. Smh. I recommend you ask for advice before you make ANY further life choiced. ;)

Same issue I had, I have never tried lashes since. I think it was hair glue too. My eyes burned juat like they did when my cousin used hair glue. It took forever getting them off, I had hardly any natural lashes left. No one locally uses anything but hair glue.

vasaline rubbed onto the lashes and hair bonding glue for a few minutes does the trick! i just use a q tip to apply, then let it sit for 5 mins. I then use the q tip to gently brush at the lashes until they slide off. for anyone that’s going to say vasaline isn’t good for your eyes either, i’ve been taking makeup off with vasaline for 10 years and my grandmother has been using it for 35 years. not one issue. so don’t worry about it.

When I get my lashes done they use the hair bonding glue. It works really well. Last about two week. I personally prefer the black glue. For the ladys that were eye makeup u shouldn't have to put mascara on your lashes. They way mine are done, I don't even have to wear makeup up at all anymore. They black glue enhanced my appearance all together. I get mine touched up. Once every two week. Then once lash comes off normally as I sleep, I just rub downward on my lashes and the rest will come on off. No irritating and no pain this way.. I've been getting them done everyday two weeks for the pass year.. I love them .. Team hair bonding glue. If wearing natural hair lashes, why wouldn't you bond to your natural lashes??

I went to a girl who did my lashes and found out after that she used hair glue and now that I finally got them off I still feel the stickyness on my eye and baby oil is helping slightly but it's still sticky

I ALWAYS patch test my clients 24-48 hrs Before the full set is applied. That's the only way you know if the "lash" glue is irritating or they are allergicallergic to it.

I've never thought to try hair glue but when it comes to taking off the residue of the glue I have always used alcohol, it clumps it up and makes it sticky and u can just pull it off without no pain.
